At Night: Forgiveness and Peace

I WILL lay me down in peace and take my rest, for it is Thou, Lord, only that makest me to dwell in safety. Let me sleep the sleep of him who is heartily sorry for his sins, and is in love and charity with his neighbours. I would not seek rest this night while cherishing any ill-will against brother or friend. I would forgive all who may have wronged me as I hope to be forgiven. In the darkness as in the light let me be wholly Thine. If I should waken in the night-watches grant me patience and quietness that I may commune with mine own heart and with Thee. Wake me in the morning strengthened in mind and body, with a heart intent only on the doing of Thy will. Amen.
