O THOU, who art from everlasting, and who livest in every creature made in Thy image; we pray for this, Thy servant, that he may be delivered from the bondage of the fear of death. Teach him that Thou art the God, not of the dead, but of the living; that all souls share in Thy immortal life; that because Thou livest, he will live also. Let him lose himself in Thee, only that he may find himself in a more glorious being. Reveal Thyself to him as Thou art, an infinitude where there is room for all spirits, who may reflect in diverse ways the glory of Thy love and thought. Take from death its last sting, the fear that in dying we lose our personality. Give unto us all a larger measure of the trust and the hope that can say with Thine own Son, "Father, into Thy hands I commend my spirit," knowing that Thou wilt not turn away from our cry, but wilt do for us exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. And unto Thee be all the glory in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.
