For a Person Suffering from Depression

O GOD, Almighty and All-good, have pity upon this Thy afflicted servant, who from the depths of sadness would lift a cry to Thee. Restore to him, we pray Thee, the joy of life. Be Thou the strength of his heart, the Light in his gloom, and the Lifter up of his head. Inspire him with new courage to throw off the thoughts that oppress; to bear with patience the trial of his faith. Grant him prudence and understanding that he may avoid those outward things that cast him down; and instead may cherish every good and hopeful inspiration and receive comfort from those who rejoice and are strong. Make him gladwith the assurance that though the night cometh, the morning cometh also. Let Thy blessing accompany the means appointed for his help. Deliver him out of prison that he may praise Thy name, through our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
