O LORD God Almighty, the Maker of all things in heaven and earth, the day is thine, the night also is thine; Thou createst the light and the sun. We thank Thee that thou hast raised us from sleep, and given us to see the light of another day. We are not worthy of these repeated acts of thy goodness; for we have sinned against Thee in thought, word, and deed. Thou mightest justly have left us in darkness, in the night of hopeless gloom and despair; but because Thou delightest in mercy we are still spared. Oh, let the day star shine upon our hearts, and chase away all the darkness of sin! We pray for pardon through Jesus Christ, who has died for our sins and risen again for our justification. Give us the witness of the Holy Spirit that we are thy children, adopted into thy family, and made heirs together of the hope of eternal life.
This day supply all our wants. Feed us with food convenient for us; let our bread be given us, and our water be sure. As thou didst graciously care for thy servant Moses, and even from infancy to hoary hairs didst protect him from all dangers, and deliver him in all temptations, so guard, guide, and defend us, we beseech Thee. Let the examples of thy special care for thy people in the days which are past lead us so to trust in Thee, that we may not be tempted to seek our wealth or profit by any means which would incur thy displeasure, and place us beyond the range of thy special providence and regard. May we always endure temptation and trial as seeing Thee, the Invisible!
Feed our souls, we pray Thee, with the bread of heaven. Let us earnestly labour for the bread which endureth unto everlasting life. Let our treasure and our heart be in heaven. Let us ever feel that the supply of our temporal wants is not all we need; and as the people of old by faith still looked to the land of promise, and longed for it as their final resting place, so, while thankful for temporal mercies, would we most earnestly pray for final admission into the rest which remaineth for the people of God. May we esteem even the reproach of Christ greater riches than all which the world can give, and in all things bear the cross patiently while we have respect unto the recompence of the reward. Let us ever feel that this is not our home, that the heavenly Canaan is our true country, and that we are constantly travelling to it. We pray to be more and more fitted for that rest by thy renewing and sanctifying Spirit. Watch over all the members of our family; restrain and sanctify them in all things by thy grace, and bring them and us finally to a heavenly home, for the sake of Jesus Christ our adorable Lord and Saviour. Amen.
