O LORD God, our heavenly Father, who art glorious in thy majesty, and yet dost stoop down to the weakest and meanest of thy creatures; we adore thy grace and power, which have kept us through the night now past. Oh, enable us to regard every returning day as a fresh witness of thy goodness, and to see in all daily blessings, and especially in the message of thy Word, cords of love by which Thou wouldest draw us to Thyself. Accept our thanksgivings. To Thee, O God, be all the praise and glory. Thou hast loved us with an everlasting love. Forgive, we beseech Thee, the coldness and sinfulness of our hearts, that we have loved Thee so little in return. Cleanse us from the guilt of unthankfulness, and awaken us to a deeper gratitude, and a heartier and holier service. Lord, we desire to live this day under thy protection. Watch Thou over us for good. We know not what is before us, nor what may be the trials and temptations which we shall meet. Be Thou with us in all that we do; and by thy Holy Spirit show us what is right, and give us strength and courage to do it.
Especially we pray Thee to give us a tender conscience, that we may not sleep in the ways of sin, nor be deaf to the voice of thy Word, nor grieve thy Spirit by our wilfulness and disobedience. O God, preserve us from spiritual blindness, from hardness of heart, and from contempt of thy Word and commandment. If trouble, befall us, open our eyes to see thy hand in it; and if it bring our sin to remembrance, give us grace to confess that we are verily guilty, and to seek earnestly for pardon and forgiveness. Oh, that past faults and failings may make us watchful against the approach of temptation, and keep us humbly dependent upon thy guidance and help, without which we shall surely fall. Grant us, O God, as a family, every domestic blessing. May the love of Jesus abide in all our hearts, that drawing nearer day by day to Him, we may be drawn nearer to each other. Oh, that all of us may be thy people, the children of God, loving Thee, and bringing forth the fruits of the Spirit. Are any of us yet wanderers from Thee, O God? by thy Holy Spirit convince us of sin, arouse us to repentance, subdue our pride, quicken us from spiritual death, reveal unto us thy dear Son in the tenderness of his love, and the power of his saving grace. Salvation belongeth unto Thee. Oh, let none of us be found unsaved in the day of Christ’s appearing. Merciful God and Father, we implore all these blessings, and we praise Thee for all thy goodness, in the name of Jesus Christ. For his sake accept us and our offering of prayer and praise, and give us peace. Amen.
