READ IN HOLY SCRIPTURE GENESIS XLIII. 1–14.
O GOD, holy and true, who workest all things after the counsel of thine own will, and who in thy wisdom and love dost bring light out of darkness, order out of confusion, and joy out of sorrow; we acknowledge with gratitude and praise that just and true are all thy ways, and that in thy hand all things work together for good to them that love Thee. Be pleased to confirm our faith in thy promises, that we, casting all our care upon Thee, may be careful about nothing; and that, walking in the light of thy countenance, we may be filled with that peace which passeth all understanding. Remember, O Lord, thy word unto thy servants, upon which Thou hast caused us to hope; and perfect in us all the good pleasure of thy goodness, and the work of faith with power. Hear us when we call, O God of our righteousness. Thou hast enlarged us when we were in distress. Have mercy upon us, and hear our prayers.
Father of mercies, who makest our cup to run over, and preventest us with the blessings of thy goodness; accept, we beseech Thee, the freewill offerings of our mouth, and let our prayer come before Thee as incense, and the lifting up of our hands be as the evening sacrifice. Thou hast preserved our souls in life, and hast filled our hearts with food and gladness. We would bless Thee, the Lord, at all times; may thy praise be continually in our mouth. Oh, continue thy loving-kindness unto them that know Thee, and thy righteousness to the upright in heart. We commit our way unto Thee, we trust also in Thee; for Thou wilt bring forth our righteousness as the light, and our judgment as the noonday. We wait for Thee; our soul doth wait, and in thy word do we hope. Be pleased, O Lord, to fulfil our petitions, and bless us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
We give thanks unto Thee, O thou Preserver of men, that we are alive every one of us this morning; and we beseech Thee, according to thy manifold mercies, to preserve us, and let goodness and mercy follow us all the days of our life. Be Thou our God; and remember those who are dear to us with the favour which Thou bearest to thy people. Let Israel rejoice in Him that made him, let the children of Zion be joyful in their King; for Thou takest pleasure in thy saints, Thou wilt preserve all them that trust in Thee.
O Lord, go before us, we beseech Thee, to keep us this day in the right path; and bless us in all that we put our hand unto, that of thine may we give Thee; and so fill us with thy grace, that whatsoever we do, we may do all to thy glory, through Jesus Christ our only Saviour. Amen.
