READ IN HOLY SCRIPTURE PSALM CIII.

O THOU gracious and eternal Jehovah, who art the strength of all who trust thee, the light of all who see thee, and the life of all who love thee: Thou art most worthy of the praises of heaven and earth. Help us, a little band, whose hearts have been touched by thy love, to draw near unto Thee, that we may join the great company who do continually show forth thy praise. Glory be to thy holy name for all the blessings Thou hast conferred upon us during the day that is now drawing to a close. We thank Thee for all the comforts we have enjoyed, and for all the evils from which we have been spared; and we desire to be deeply grateful for the privileges enjoyed by us during the Sabbath which is past. May the good seed of the kingdom which has been sown in our hearts bring forth fruit in our lives, and in the lives of all who have been our fellow-worshippers. Teach us to hide thy Word in our hearts, so that we may not sin against Thee. And we pray Thee, good Lord, to comfort those who by sickness, or infirmity, or any lawful impediment, were deprived of the means of grace, and supply them, by thy good Spirit, with holy thoughts and heavenly desires.

Thou kind and merciful Father, we praise Thee for all thy bounties. Never let us forget thy love to us, for it is wonderful. We are of yesterday, and know nothing. Thou art the same yesterday, to-day, and for ever. Yet Thou dost not despise or forget us. We are guilty of sins without number. Thou art of purer eyes than to behold iniquity; yet Thou hast not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. We die, but thine undying mercy endureth throughout all generations. Let the people praise Thee, O God; yea, let all the people praise Thee. Cause us to feel the uncertainty of our lives, and to be continually prepared for death; and grant that our children after us may sing of thy righteousness, and be a seed to serve Thee, and a generation to call Thee blessed.

May thy kind and watchful providence protect all beneath this roof during the night upon which we have entered; bless us with refreshing sleep; preserve us from danger, and let us rise in the morning, to pursue the duties of daily life in a spirit of humble faith and holy diligence, anxious in all things to do that which will please Thee. Forgive, most merciful God, all that has been amiss in us this day. In many things we all offend; but we bless Thee that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sin. Through him we ascribe unto Thee, Lord God Almighty, the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, world without end. Amen.
