SEVENTH WEEK.—LORD’S DAY. — Morning

A Sabbath morning prayer for risen life in Christ, faithful worship and the spread of righteousness.

Historical edition. Historical claims and instructions are preserved as historical context.

READ IN HOLY SCRIPTURE PROVERBS III.

O GOD of Hosts, hear our prayer. Meet us in our worship. May we all be in the Spirit of the Lord on the Lord’s day. Be merciful unto us, O God, through the merits of thy dear Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. He died for our sins, but was raised again for our justification. We plead his righteousness alone. Give to thy servants, we humbly beseech Thee, fellowship with his sufferings, and let us know the power of his resurrection. May we be risen with Christ. May we seek, this day, those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

We present to Thee, O Lord, our offering of praise for the mercies of the past week. Thou hast defended and comforted us every night. Thou hast been always doing us good. If we are permitted to go up to thy holy temple, and to worship with thy people, of thy great goodness, go Thou with us. Let us worship God, who is a Spirit, in spirit and in truth. May we hear thy holy Word in all humility, and understand it, and believe it, and obey it from the heart. Assist thy servant who shall speak to us in thy name. May he speak as a good minister of Jesus Christ, and this day know nothing amongst men save Jesus Christ and him crucified. If, in thy providence, any amongst us be deprived of the services of the sanctuary, do thou, nevertheless, visit us with the joys of thy salvation, and open to us the Scriptures, and draw near to us in our private worship, and let our home be to us as the house of God.

We pray, O merciful Father, for all faithful pastors, and for all who confess Christ and acknowledge him to be the Lord. May they all this day receive help out of Zion, and be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple. May thy people everywhere keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Hear us, O God, for all mankind, especially for those who, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenant of promise, shall hear this day of Christ in our own land or on foreign shores. Send down upon them thy Holy Spirit. Take away the stony heart from every sinner, and give him a heart of flesh. O Lord, let thy word have free course, and be glorified. Let the people praise Thee, O God, yea, let all the people praise Thee. Soon let all lands keep their Sabbaths, and let the reign of righteousness spread over all the earth.

And now, may He who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that Great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make us perfect in every good work, to do his will, working in us that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
