A morning prayer for reverent faith, forgiveness, family charity and faithful service.

Historical edition. Historical claims and instructions are preserved as historical context.

READ IN HOLY SCRIPTURE HEBREWS XII. 14–28.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, we draw near to thy throne with deep reverence, adoring thy glorious perfections, confessing our sins, and supplicating thy gracious regard and unmerited mercy. Blessed be thy name that, through the blood which speaketh better things than the blood of Abel, we can come near to thy footstool. Give us grace to hear thy voice as thou speakest in thy Word and by thy Spirit, and ever to serve Thee with reverence and godly fear.

O our God, we thank thee for the gift of thy Son. May his life be our righteousness, his death our atonement and salvation, and his mighty intercession at thy right hand our constant and abiding security and help in every time of trouble. We thank Thee, O Lord, for the means of grace and the blessed privileges of the glorious Gospel of thy Son. Glory be to thy gracious name, we are permitted to draw near to Thee! Lord, give us simple, full, and strong faith in Christ for the salvation of our souls. Oh, forgive us all that has been wrong in the past; and grant us such spiritual strength for all future duties and difficulties, that in everything we may glorify thy holy name.

Thou, O Lord, art acquainted with all our affairs. Direct us in thine own way; show us the path of duty; and, for the sake of our blessed Redeemer, pour down upon us thy special blessing, and give us in rich abundance the help of thy Holy Spirit.

We acknowledge our sins, and are deeply grieved on account of our many transgressions; in thought, word, and deed, we have offended against Thee. We have broken thy laws, and have not profited by the many opportunities which have been graciously laid in our path. We have not been as grateful as we ought to be for thy mercies daily bestowed upon us. Forgive us, O Lord, for all these things. Take not thy Holy Spirit from us. Let us not fail of thy grace; nor for anything which this world can offer, barter our hope of eternal glory. Continue thy loving-kindness and thy gracious mercies towards us. Help us personally to honour thy great name. Let no bitterness or strife be found among us, but make us a family serving Thee and loving one another; willing to be guided by thy Word in all things that may happen to us.

We commend to Thee, O Lord, ourselves and all whom we love; our country and our gracious Queen; make all our great men good men; give them grace and courage to perform the duties of their high stations as in thy sight. Bless all thy ministers in their work; give them the signs of thy presence in converted and believing hearers. We pray for all in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
