READ IN HOLY SCRIPTURE GENESIS VIII.
LORD God Almighty, our Creator, Preserver, and Father, all power is thine. Thou canst create and Thou canst destroy: Thou canst kill and make alive; Thou canst raise the dead, and preserve alive in the midst of death. Who would not fear Thee, Lord of all power and might? We would ever speak to Thee with reverence and godly fear, but at the same time with the confidence which thy faithfulness and goodness invite.
We have deserved destruction on account of our sins, but Thou hast not rewarded us according to our iniquities. Blessed be God, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. For the redemption which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
Remember not against us, O Lord, the sins of our youth, or any of our iniquities; but remember us with the favour Thou bearest unto thy people. Remember us all, the youngest and the oldest, the weakest and the strongest. Remember us all, to save us with an everlasting salvation, and to do us good all the days of our lives. And wilt Thou help us, O Father of our spirits, to remember Thee? As we begin and end each day, may we remember Thee. As we commence and finish our daily work, may we remember Thee. In the midst of our kindred, friends, and neighbours, may we remember Thee. In all times of sorrow and of joy, in all seasons of trial and of temptation, may we remember Thee. In all places and in all scenes, help us to remember Thee. May we remember Thee with love and with joy, with hope and with child-like confidence. May we remember Thee to obey Thee, to give Thee thanks continually, to cast all our cares upon Thee, to serve and to glorify Thee, and to present to Thee our bodies living sacrifices, holy and acceptable, which is our reasonable service.
We also pray that we may be assisted at all times to remember Thee, not merely by thy Word and by thy Holy Spirit’s ministrations, but also by beholding the works of thy hands. As we see the seasons change from seedtime to harvest, from summer to winter; as we see day follow night, and night succeed to day; may we remember Thee, and think of Thee as ever faithful to thy promises, and mindful of thy covenant. We ask yet further, that as Noah, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, were saved from the flood, so in like manner we may be saved as a family from thy wrath; and may we assemble around thy throne in heaven a family unbroken—a family entirely saved. This great mercy, and all the blessings which we need, we ask in our gracious Saviour’s name. Amen.
