READ IN HOLY SCRIPTURE 2 PETER II. 1–9.
O GOD! in whose hand are all our times, and who knowest how to deliver the godly out of temptations, save by thy name and judge us by thy strength. Let thy tender mercies come unto us, that we may live; and let thy merciful kindness be for our comfort, according to thy word. Thou, O Lord, art our confidence, and we beseech Thee to keep our foot from being taken; so will we walk in our way safely, and not be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the destruction of the wicked when it cometh. Deliver us, O Lord, from our enemies; we flee unto Thee to hide us. Mercifully send thine angel before us, to keep us in all our ways; and as Thou didst save thy servant Lot from the hand of unjust and cruel men, let it please Thee to preserve us in the hour of temptation, delivering our souls from death, our eyes from tears, and our feet from falling.
Almighty God, who requirest truth in the inward parts, create in us a clean heart, that we, escaping the corruption that is in the world through lust, may do those things which are well pleasing unto Thee, so that finally we may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
Father of all our mercies, we give thanks unto Thee for thy great goodness which Thou hast laid up for those that fear Thee, which Thou hast wrought for them that trust in Thee before the sons of men. Accept our morning sacrifice of praise for thy watchful care over us during the sleep and the silence of night—for renewed life, and health, and reason, and all the blessings of this life. Above all, we bless Thee for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And we beseech Thee give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful, and that we may show forth thy praise not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to thy service, and by walking before Thee in righteousness and holiness all our days. Mercifully keep us this day from evil, and prosper us in the work of our hands.
Bless us, O our Father, as a family, with all who are dear unto us. Hear us for the good estate of thy whole Church and for the salvation of all men. Let thy Word run and be glorified. Bring many hearts this day to thy dear Son in repentance and faith. Bless our country and our Queen, with all in authority over us. Comfort all who are in sorrow, and heal the broken in heart; and this we beg through Jesus Christ, our only Mediator and Saviour.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost be with us all. Amen.
