READ IN HOLY SCRIPTURE PSALM CXXX.
O GOD! the God of the spirits of all flesh; Thou hast no pleasure in the death of the wicked, and savest such as be of a contrite spirit; pardon, we beseech Thee, the iniquity of thy servants, according to the greatness of thy mercy; and bless us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus; that we, being sanctified through thy truth, and preserved by thy mighty power, may receive the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
Most merciful Father! out of the depth of our sin and ruin do we cry unto Thee; pitifully behold us in our low and lost estate; for if Thou shouldest mark iniquity, we could not stand. With Thee there is forgiveness, that Thou mayest be feared. Have mercy upon us, O Lord, according to thy loving-kindness; according to thy tender mercies, blot out our transgressions; granting us true repentance, with faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and the hope of eternal life. We wait on Thee; our soul doth wait, and in thy word do we hope. O God, be not far from us; O our God, make haste for our help.
Our Father in heaven! who hast given us this day our daily bread, and hast prevented us with the blessings of thy goodness; we would sacrifice unto Thee with the voice of thanksgiving, and pay unto Thee that which we have vowed. Let it please Thee so to rule in our hearts by thy grace, that we may hate every false way, and be kept from the path of the destroyer. Pitifully look upon us in our weakness, and help us to take heed to our ways, that we sin not against Thee; but keeping our tongue from evil and our lips from speaking guile, may we worthily magnify thy holy name, and adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour.
O God, hide us under the shadow of thy wings, and let thy tender mercies come unto us, that we may live. Let thy merciful kindness be for our comfort, according to thy word; bless our substance, and accept the work of our hands; let it be well with us, and with our children after us, that we may prolong our days upon the earth. O Lord, who art our confidence and our hope, let it please Thee to keep us during the night. When we lie down, let us not be afraid; and let our sleep be sweet. Do Thou for us, and for our kindred, above all we ask or think. Build up Jerusalem, and let the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.
And now let these our words wherewith we have made supplication before Thee, be heard by Thee, the Lord our God; and in thy faithfulness answer us through Jesus Christ, our only exalted Redeemer. Amen.
