GREAT and most merciful Father, we thank Thee for thy precious promises of mercy to penitent and backsliding souls. Lord, we repent of our sins. Oh! make our repentance deep and sincere, a repentance that needeth not to be repented of. We thank Thee for the gracious promise of thy Word. Convince, cleanse, and comfort the hearts of all sincere believers in Jesus Christ our Lord, and speak peace to all who forsake their sins and return to Thee. God of light, reveal to our souls the value of thy Spirit, that we may thirst for his truth and grace. God of love, reveal to us the power and willingness of our glorified Redeemer to send down this most excellent gift of thy Spirit into our hearts. May his grace drop on us as the rain, and distil on us as the dew, and make our heart as a watered garden bringing forth ripe fruits unto Thee. May the influences of thy blessed Spirit mingle with all our meditations and prayers. May his holy fire touch our hearts and lips with praise. May his quickening power animate us to all holy zeal and vigour in duty, and make us as the salt of the earth to our generation, so that our speech may be always with grace. Let his purifying energy penetrate to the inmost springs of thought, feeling, and action within us. May his grace so feed our lamp, that it may burn steadily in life, and through the valley and shadow of death.
O God, shed thy love abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit given unto us; and while we love Thee as our Father, may we love our fellow-men as the objects of thy love, and our fellow-Christians as thy children and our brethren in Christ. Prepare us by thy Spirit for all the dispensations of thy providence. May we bring forth the fruits of the Spirit in due degree and proportion. May we be taught of God to be moderate in prosperity, to be submissive in suffering, to be meek under opposition, to be gentle toward all men, and rightly to discharge every duty connected with our calling and walk. We thank Thee for past helps; and we trust Thee, Thou good and faithful God, for all future good, and for all grace to help us in every time of need. Bless thy Church with Pentecostal baptisms of thy Spirit. Revive, O Father, thy work in the midst of us. Let Divine power attend thy preached Gospel; and let the world be more deeply and widely convinced of its sin and its need of the great salvation of thy Son. We would realise our dependence on thy grace; keep us sensitively watchful lest we grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by which we trust we are sealed to the day of redemption. O God, grant it all, for Christ’s sake. Amen.
