For Mercy and Guidance

For Mercy and Guidance

O GOD and merciful Father, Thou knowest and hast taught us also to know that the weakness of man is such, that without Thy grace, he can neither do, nor think any good thing. Have mercy upon us, we humbly beseech Thee; O Father, be gracious unto us. Lighten us, that we may with pleasure look upon good things only; inflame our hearts with the love thereof, that we may covet them carefully; lead us and guide us, that we may follow and at the last attain them. We, distrusting ourselves, commend and offer ourselves wholly — soul, body, life — into Thy hands. Let Thy loving Spirit lead us forth into the land of righteousness; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
